In 2008, our first survey online was accessible in order to gather as much field information on equine dermatitis as possible; thus giving a few answers to the problem. This survey also leads to others aspects of the SSRD which now needs further explanations. That is why Animaderm observatory issued a new questionnaire . We still need you and your experience!

The only objective of Derfen is to get an efficient response to SSRD :Derfen relieves itching but Animaderm wants to go one step further. Indeed, every year, our horses and stables have to cope with attacks of parasites responsible for the SSRD. From a scientific and medical point of view, SSRD is an allergy. As soon as your horse becomes allergic, it will be allergic for the rest of its life.
Where does this allergy come from ? The only thing we know so far is that allergy is characterized by a weakness of the immune system;our goal is to know why the immune system is over reacting and why it is working sometimes inappropriately . Why do more and more horses react to SSRD and we still do not know how to handle it? Faced with the lack of information on this pathology, Animaderm ,given its knowledge on SSRD,has chosen to take part in the research by providing accurate and analysable information for scientists.
Animaderm's actions Several actions have been conducted since Derfen was launched: A network of local veterinary correspondents has been set up to collect field information on SSRD (date of first appearance, number of horses affected...) - end users' feedback analysis (contacts, calls and testimonials) - contacting local horseshoers(farriers) and equine centers - creating an online survey accessible for everyone (In French for the present time, soon in English) - contacting local individuals to gather field information about the evolution of SSRD in their town, county or region (state).
A monthly map In order to provide our customers with updated field information, we set out every month a map of SSRD projections (where it is likely to hit) for the different regions of France. This map is to be taken as "information only" and cannot be exhaustive. It gives a general trend given information we have as it depends first of all on the number of horses (significant differences may appear between regions).
