Indeed, dermatitis is a catch-all term for inflammatory conditions of the skin that makes horses rub; but equine dermatitis may be caused by bacteria, viruses or allergies (to insect bites , food...). Derfen will repel parasites , soothe the sores, relieve itching but further veterinary investigation will say if your horse is subject to dermatitis and why. WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER 1-Shake well the bottle between each application 2-Apply Derfen each time your horse has signs of itching (use latex gloves when applying)
Strong Seasonal Summer Recurrent Dermatitis 1 Apply Derfen directly on the skin on any affected areas, insist between mane's hair, at the base of the tail; treatment should last ten days. Then, apply Derfen each time your horse has signs of itching.
2 During the day that follows the first application, the skin should become crusty and wounds get fat. It means Derfen is working. Prior to additional application(s), delicately brush the excess of crust off (do not rub too hard), Derfen will then penetrate more efficiently.
3 As soon as your horse is rubbing, additional application(s) is needed.
4 apply Derfen if there is any signs of itching; if your horse is very allergic to parasites, applications will have to be more frequent. Derfen prevents from culicoides and is a very effective barrier to their effects. However, it will not cure your horse. Derfen must be applied at regular intervals and if there is any signs of itching. If you notice Derfen is not working, apply more. If some areas are still affected but not others, you need to apply more on the former. Derfen will relieve any skin irritations if it is applied "when needed". After applying Derfen, your horse may feel the need to rub(he may be surprised or bothered: it may feel tingled). If so, you can mix Derfen with vaseline to get a softer mixture and avoid the discomfort. The use of vaseline combined with Derfen is also useful when affected areas are hard to reach (behind ears for example).
Mud scale 1- clean the limbs with an antiseptic soap. Delicately brush your horse directly on affected areas; be careful not to hurt your horse. 2-rinse generously and dry the limbs off. 3- then apply a pesticide (such as Acadrex). You will have to repeat the treatment after 10 days. 4-In the meantime, apply Derfen on all affected areas. It will hydrate the sores and quicken hair growth; Derfen will also repel any parasites. 5-When the treatment is over, apply Derfen routinely to prevent the recurrence of mud scale
Mycosis and fungal infection
Derfen can also be used as a general equine skin care maintenance regimen to combat any other dermatitis. Directions to apply it would be every 2 or 3 days on affected areas; on limbs, apply Derfen against the grain of hair growth, then massage to make Derfen penetrate deeply. You can mix derfen with petroleum jelly if the horse is too sensitive. Recommendation: use latex gloves when applying product.
