This unique mixture is totally free of chemicals as its components are rare vegetable oils and extracts of plants. Effective, simple, Derfen both relieves and prevents any kind of equine dermatitis. |
What you need to remember 1/ Seasonal Summer Recurrent Dermatitis is an allergy caused by culicoides bites. It is not contagious but the usual cause is the hypersensitivity to the bites(allergic reaction to chemicals in the saliva of the midge). 2/ If a horse is allergic, it will be allergic for the rest of its life 3/ Midges responsible for the allergy are everywhere but two factors will keep them away : - windy conditions (they are not strong flyers) - cold (below 12°C-53°F) : that is why the SSRD won't appear during winter. If your horse still encounters itching when it is below 12°C, contact your vet 4/midges are to be found - near standing water - at dusk or dawn Careful : if your horse is rubbing its tail or mane, it does not necessarily mean it is affected by SSRD. Other allergies can be triggerred by food, pollen, dust....;as they are very hard to diagnose, they require specialist veterinary investigation. Sweat may also be a cause of itching, so just give a shower to your horse after riding or if it is wearing a rug
